On a street with trees, one autumn fills a gutter. Leaves, moss off the roof and grit form a plug that lodges precisely at the downpipe outlet — the one point you cannot see from the ground. After that the water stands in the gutter, and standing water looks for the shortest way in.
We clear the gutter by hand, flush it through, and then test every downpipe with running water until we can see it discharging freely at the bottom. Without that last test you do not know the blockage has really gone — it sits in the pipe more often than in the gutter.
We take the leaf waste away. We clear up whatever landed on the patio or in the garden, and on request you get photos of the gutter before and after. If we spot a loose bracket, a leaking joint or the start of rot in the fascia, we tell you — you would rather hear it from us than from a builder.

Questions about gutter cleaning
When is the best time to have the gutter cleaned?
Late November or early December, once the leaves are down. Do it in October and the gutter will be full again by January. With conifers or a plane tree nearby, twice a year is wiser: once in spring and once after leaf fall.
Can you reach a gutter three storeys up?
Yes. Up to about two storeys we work off a ladder; above that with a cherry picker or a facade installation. That appears as a separate line in the quote, because equipment hire is a real cost and we do not bury it in an hourly rate.
Do you also repair a leaking gutter?
Small things we do on the spot: tighten a bracket, seal a joint, fit a leaf guard. If a section of gutter needs replacing or the fascia has rotted, that is a carpenter’s job and we say so plainly rather than making a half-job of it.
